Yes

I have noticed the same thing among older people from the Coptic church who would occassionally attend liturgy at an OCA parish that I used to go to....I always thought it was to "announce" their faith to everyone, especially since they came from a Muslim country....

I think that the word "heretic" gets thrown around a lot here these days, but I don't believe that anyone is being culturally biased......

and Dunkin Donuts coffee is awesome.

Dear Paradosis,

I have difficulty with the term, for I am not in the position to make a judgement of anothers choosing within Christianity, they have chosen their path, however there is nothing wrong in good discussion.

Orthodox Churches that are not Orthodox but Heterodox

Post by Methodius »

Jakub, its not a matter of Rites, but of Wrongs. Before the East-West schism, the monophysites were anathemized for heresey. Their heresy put them outside the Church. The Coptics, the Indian church, the Syrian church, the Ethiopian church, the Entritean church, the British church, et al are all no in communion with the Orthodox Churches because of this. Just because they use the name Orthodox, please do not be deceived into thinking they are Orthodox. That does not mean that these people are not great guys, just heretics. Sorry to have to be the one to inform you. :-(

I believe it is just a Coptic tradition.

Now I am confused

As I had mentioned, at that OCA parish there were many Coptics would who visit, and some Syrian Orthodox. If those jurisidictions are not recognized as Orthodox, why would the Priest and Archbishop allow these people to share in Communion?

Sigh, yes ecumenism. Once you begin to think about these things, it all seems really crazy. :ohvey:
