Rusyn True Orthodox Church Establishes Synod in Ukraine
07.12.03 (RISU.org.ua) – The Synod of Hierarchs of the Rusyn True Orthodox (Catacomb) Church (RTOC) was established during the 12th Council of RTOC hierarchs, held in early July in southern Ukrainian Odesa. This news was reported by the RTOC press service on 10 July 2003.

Today, the RTOC consists of seven eparchies: Kyiv and Odesa, Chernihiv and Homel (in Ukraine), Chornomorsk and Kuban, Novhorod and Tvir, Omsk and Siberia, Tambovsk and Voronezh (in Russia), and Vernensk and Semyrichensk (in Kazakhstan). Odesa is home to the St. John of Kronstadt Pastoral College and residence of Archbishop Lazar Zhurbenko of Odesa, spiritual leader of the RTOC.

According to the RTOC, the number of the church’s supporters has recently increased significantly, because of converts and those who joined the church from other denominations. This gives grounds for the creation of new eparchies of the RTOC in Ukraine.

Equivalence

Post by Bogatyr »

And they're all just as equivalent, as canonical as the mp, rocor, et.

PS This diocese was founded by rocor.

i fail to see

Post by mwoerl »

i fail to see how "all" can be "equivalent" or "as canonical" as anything. "this diocese" is obviously "changed hands" since being founded by rocor. i have read lazar is a sort of a nut case anyway . . . whatever-you know, really and truly-anymore i dont even care!

Russian Dioceses

Post by Bogatyr »

Are either of you prepared to say any of the Russian bodies is more "virtuous" than the other or more "Orthodox" after the mess of the last century? They are all just as right and most just as wrong. That is the path of folly which many of us followed until not too long ago.

PS While I'm not calling anyone a "nut", I could easily say, using such reasoning that x mp bishop was a "bolshevik criminal" and x oca or pj bishop a "flake". What good does that do save to show unfettered bias and illegitimate speech?!

archbishop lazar

sorry-i forgot-no unfettered bias allowed here!

in an effort at some clarity, then, i will post again what i posted before.

"Lazar paid an 'official' visit to the right-wing weekly 'Dyen' in early 1992, in the course of which the usual invocations of the 'Protocols,' the Masons, and the Satanists were made . . . while Lazar invoked the authority of Christ, on several occasions he also based himself on the teachigs of Hinduism concerning karma. His apprearance left the impression of a man whose mental balance was less than complete . . . some thought Lazar intentionally fraudulent . . .[or] manipulated by . . . 'sinister forces' . . . Next Archbishop Lazar made a dramatic appearance in Moscow at the founding meeting of Otchizna, one of the National Bolshevik and military groups that mushroomed at that time. 'There are so many clever people here,' he declared. 'Why don't we simply seize power?' [Lazar] went on, attacking Krasnaya Zvezda, the Russian Army's daily newspaper . . . was it not outrageous that the Red Star publisihng house [publishers of Krasnaya Zvezda] also printed, among other periodicals, the Yevreiskaya gazeta, the organ of the Moscow Jewish community? The Archbishop, in brief, called for a coup and a civil war . . ."
