Not to mention that most MREs leave a lot to be desired! Enjoy Monterey -- there's a lot of Church history down there -- the church where Father Seraphim Rose -- a noted American Orthodox monastic from the 1960s-80s before he reposed, established a monastery in Northern Calif. (if you're not familiar with him) -- first became acquainted w/ Orthodoxy is in Seaside, I believe, or it may be in Monterey.

Dear Ben

Father George from Dormition Skete says they are in the process of making one. I am not sure when this is supposed ot be, but they are working on it from what I understand.

THE RULE OF FASTING FOR NATINITY AND APOSTLES' FAST

(Chapter 33 of Typicon)

NO meat or dairy...
on Tuesdays/Thursdays oil&wine is allowed,
on Sat/Sun fish is allowed.
If it occurs on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday a saint who has a Doxology -fish is allowed,
but if on Wed/Friday - ONLY oil&wine (no fish).
if on Wed/Fri a saint has a Vigil or it's the day of the patron Saint of the church - wine&oil and fish is allowed.
Jan 3-7(civil calendar) - strict fast, NO MATTER WHAT

Whenever, for sickness or any other reason, one falls short of the rule, he applies to himself the spiritual medicine of self-reproach and strives to enter more fully into the spirit and discipline of fasting, which is indeed of great spiritual benefit to those who sincerely strive to follow it

guidelines for Nativity Fast

Post by Joe Zollars »

Dear Faithful,God bless you. There have been some questions about the fasting rules during the NativityFast. We are allowed fish, oil, and wine everyday except for Wednesdays andFridays, up to the feast of Ss. Spyridon and Herman, which is the 25th ofDecember on the New Style. Then the fasting rules become like those of theGreat Fast, and we are allowed, for the remaining two weeks, oil, wine, andshellfish only on the weekends.Of course, as in all fast periods, whether it is one day or any number ofdays, marital relations are set aside. In Christ,+Bishop Gregory

Question on Fasting

Post by Seeker »

I have been fasting on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays for the Nativity Fast. I do not eat meat or dairy products during these days. However, I recently have fell ill and to be honest I am miserable. As a result, I have broken my fast today in the hopes it would make me feel better. So, my question to you is in Orthodoxy can a person break a fast if that person is really sick with the Flu?

Thanks!

I think this is our thread on the Nativity fast, I grabbed it quick and it may be wrong, but yes the canons allow us to lessen out fasting when we are ill. http://www.euphrosynoscafe.com/forum/vi ... php?t=1432 I will pray that you get better soon!
