Arystarcus,

How do they differ from the ROAC and ROCOR?

After all these years, many feel, including myself, that the ROCOR is now heading away or are completly gone from Orthodoxy by communing with Cyprianites and talking about uniting with the MP and Monophysites. For many of these people, the ROAC is the true continuation of the ROCOR - thus you will see them called ROCOR(v); the "v" for their Archbishop Valentine.

What is the difference between the Matthewites, Lamians and the GOC?

This cuold be pages and pages long. In short, the Matthewites, ie Bishop Matthew, broke communion with the GOC of Greece in the 30's b/c they would not declare, at that time, the State Church of Greece was Graceless.

The "Lamains" are the result of 6 bishops leaving the GOC of Greece under Archbishop Chrysostomos II. Of these six, two repented and returned, two joined the heretic Bartholomew, and two "walled themselves off" in an anti-synod, becoming the "Lamians". The Lamains will forever have to stay "walled off" from the Church since they cannot make the charge of heresy.

What is the Chrysostomos Synod?

This is what the Lamians say they are "walled off" from - the GOC of Greece.

BTW, Orthos starts at 7:30 and Divine Liturgy about 9:30 AM on Sunday

Daniel, do you have time to answer? I am simply buried and my reply, which I just spent 15 minutes typing was erased when my mouse fell :(

if not then I will respond again tonight or in the morning...sorry.

Please forgive me, I don't think I can, I don't get too much time for computer access while at work.

ROCOR, of course means:
The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia

After Metropolitan Vitaly (Usitnov) retired, and began the Russian Orthodox Church in Exile, this group has been referred to as the
ROCiE,

or as:

ROCOR-V, meaning ROCOR under Vitaly, for some who prefer to see it described as THE continuation of ROCOR instead of a separate entity;

as opposed to:

ROCOR-L,

meaning

ROCOR under Lavr (or Laurus), who was elected Metropolitan
of ROCOR after Vitaly retired.

ROAC is the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church,
which is headed by Metropolitan Valentin (Rusantsov) of Suzdal,
which began as an entirely Russian phenomenon, but which has
established a Diocese and Parishes in the USA since its
inception.

To OOD:

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions and for explaining the answers in detail. I have the time for Divine Liturgy at St. John's written on a post-it note by my cpu so I don't forget. :)

To mwoerl:

Thank you for your explanation as well, I really appreciate it!
