ROAC, GOC, And Everyone Else

There is a church here in Illinois called "St. John the Forerunner Hellenic Orthodox Church" and I think it's on Archer Ave. - unfortunately, I am not exactly sure what town it resides in. I do know that it's west of Justice though. I looked it up on the GOARCH directory, but apparently it's not one of theirs. I doubted it was because they have a church (Holy Cross) a few miles east of there.

I tried a search on google, but nothing came up. So, I was wondering if perhaps this may be one of the GOC churches that is not listed?

If anyone might know what jurisdiction this "St. John the Forerunner Hellenic Orthodox Church" belongs to please let me know.

Any and all help/info is welcomed and appreciated.

St. John the Forerunner'sis in Willow Springs. And its part of the GOC under Archbishop Chrysostomos of Athens and Met. Paul of N.&S. America.

Bishop Gregory (ROAC) was in the GOC under Chrysostomos as an Archmandrite. His leaving could be the topic of another discussion, something I would rather avoid in a public forum.

The Lamians are very small in Greece, and everywhere. They consider themselves “walled off” from the GOC under Archbishop Chrysostomos II, therefore, they consider us “the Church”. The Mathewites (that term also needs to be clarified), are fairly large in Greece, I’ve heard the number as high as 350,000 followers. The Cyprianites are very, very small in Greece, they are much bigger in the West.

I have been to one Greek Old Calendar Church-Saints Anargyroi/Saint Nektarios in the Chicago area-Metropolitan Pavlos served with another Bishop from Greece-very nice service,

Please visit the week after next, Bishop Pavlos, Bishop Christodoulos, and another Bishop from Greece will be serving with Father Christos and Father Iakovos for the names-day of the Church. I would like to meet you.

St. John the Forerunner Hellenic Orthodox Church is in the GOC synod under Pavlos (Chrysostomos synod). It is one of three churches in Chicago under the synod headed by Archbishop Chrysostomos. It will be closed the Sunday after next for the mentioned celebration at Holy Unmercenaries Cosmos and Damianos. There is a map at the site linked by Daniel.

Michael, we also have a monastery with weekly service in Woodstock, IL if you are interested, contact me. The monks are currently in Greece but will coming with several from Esphigmenou very soon I hear.

To Daniel: Thank you so much for giving me the link to St. John the Forerunner, I truly appreciate that. How did you ever manage to find the site? I thought that google would have turned it up, but I never had any luck. I spent quite a bit of time on their site this afternoon, but I was not able to find when the Divine Liturgy was on Sundays - would you happen to know? I hope to visit there sometime in the future.

To OOD: You seem to be quite knowledgeable about the GOC, would you mind if I asked you a few questions?

Where might I find more information about the GOC besides stmarkella.org?

How do they differ from the ROAC and ROCOR?

What is the difference between the Matthewites, Lamians and the GOC?

What is the Chrysostomos Synod?

I am asking because I am currently looking into Orthodoxy and after seeing how the World Orthodox Churches seem so willing to participate in blasphemous ecumenical meetings like the Assisi prayer gatherings and also reading specifically about the ecumenist movement in Orthodoxy on the ROAC site, it truly makes my skin crawl. :ohvey:

From your post it sounds like you attend at Holy Unmercenaries, if I am mistaken please feel free to corect me. Would you happen to know what language the liturgy at Holy Mercenaries is in and also the liturgy at St. John the Forerunner's is in? I am assuming Greek, but I just wanted to make sure.

Although I do not speak Greek, I do not believe that that would hinder my attending at either church. I have been to Greek services before at GOARCH parishes, so it would seem "too foreign" for me.

I apologize for asking so many questions, but even though I have been lurking around this forum for a couple months now, I am still trying to figure out all of the differences between the all the jurisdictions. I truly appreciate any and all information you may be able to provide.
