Bernard of Clairvaux (c. 1090-1153), wrote In Praise of The New Knighthood as a commentary on the recently created Knights Templar who were the vanguard force that led the Crusades into the Holy Land. What is especially valuable about this text is that it is a prime showcase of a theology that had emerged during the Gregorian Reforms in the West that was completely new and foreign to the theology of the Church in the first millennium.
