OH ! Thank you, eish. You are helping to survive on social media. The glossary of terms people is mind-boggling for me.

I guess most people today grow up with this, so these words sound normal.
You can be SURE that I'll never use any of these words myself
But just to understand other people's posts, it helps tremendously. Thanks.

I probably have a few more too about which to ask.

To me, a troll is only ONE thing [below].

But when i look up the pics right now, i see all have colored hair ! Goodness !!!

Oh PS, I just remembered that i DID grow up also with Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, in which Peer Gynt gets captured by -- trolls. I guess THAT is the origin of the term ?

"In the Hall of the Mountain King", which is the troll king
Played here by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra [3 min only] :

Keep in mind that, historically, a “troll” in Swedish was not a monster but a rural pagan. There's a famous medieval Swedish song Herr Mannelig, or “Sir Manly.” It's about a “trolla,” i.e. pagan woman, who wants Sir Manly the knight to marry her but he rebukes her because he is a Christian and will not simp for a pagan.

So if you look it up in Youtube, you will find various musical groups who perform the song dressed up in generic Hollywood-style “medieval” outfits (i.e. grey and looking nothing like medieval garb). That's where it gets sad but hilarious. Check the comments. They're full of pagan-larpers who don't know what the song means but feel the need to comment about how this is Trve Evropean Cvltvre before the naughty Christians came and ruined it. Retards.

PS: The two terms are unrelated. “Trolling” to get a rise out of someone comes from a type of fishing, not like the monster adapted from Swedish folklore.

A meme for your time.

Ok, wait a minute, eish.

I have to ASK : what is a "simp" - it sounds SO WEIRD ??

WHERE on earth did all these pop terms come FROM ? I never cease to be amazed at how bizarre they are.

That's interesting about the troll history.

I didn't get the meme thing at 1st. I am VERY SLOW at this stuff.
Finally, I did. That is funny [chuckling].

I will have to find out, too, what "receipts" means ?? Thanks !

Parasocial relationships are a “new” (but not really new) phenomenon of the age of mass media. In the 20th Century with radio and television shows, large numbers of people started imagining the voices from the electric hallucinogens as being people whom they knew--like friends, and love interests. This is where you see middle aged housewives being infatuated with some actor on another continent. People being in love with actors, news readers, reporters, talk show hosts, fictional characters, and even cartoons, in addition to large numbers of them imagining that these people are their friends. And today, you have the same phenomenon of parasocial relationships being directed at podcasters, online prostitutes, etc.

“Simps” are the men who form parasocial bonds with online prostitutes or female podcasters. They throw money at women who do not know them, do not care about them, and will never meet them, because they fall in love with an idealised image of that woman and imagines that she starts to care about him when she acknowledges a donation on stream. They're called simps as I recall because it's short for “simpleton.” Basically, sad, pathetic, lonely men being exploited by women who wear low cut tops on stream and flirt with the camera. (Or sometimes more explicit whores.)

By extension, a man who debases himself for a woman who does not respect him, can be called a simp because he is engaging in similar behaviour.

Now in reality it is not a new thing at all. Chivalry was, in fact, just simping. In the West after the Schism noblemen and knights were encouraged to debase themselves for the “honour” of women other than their wives, in a very much parasocial manner.

OH, i had NO CLUE what that word meant !
I would NEVER expect it to be anything like that. I am mystified at the phenomenon.

But the Age of Chivalry and the Troubadours and all that had nothing to do with this tacky modern style, I don't agree with you there.

So, does this happen quite a bit today ? The men get fixated on a TV anchor or something ? I agree about the low cut tops - it's just REPULSIVE how these media women wear the worst clothes. I couldn't figure out WHY, tho.

Take Megyn Kelly - I have only seen her talk a few times that randomly showed up - usually bec. of really strange remarks she had made that the public was discussing.

She is a Vatican II Catholic, but wears ALWAYS low cut tops as though going to the beach, often with a jacket over that, but just so the top is visible.

Does that mean that these men are "after" her, or women like her ?

I need to understand what's going on out there !
I am SO FAR BEHIND the rest of the world !!!
