Though I'd never heard of him before reading about him this morning, I've taken the time afterwards to do some research on him. He's a pretty scary guy.

Wasn't it Father Seraphim Rose who wrote that the man with Christ on his lips but not in his heart was far worse than the atheist? The atheist has not experienced God and doesn't believe in Him, but the man with Christ only on his lips and not in his heart can be a wolf in sheep's clothing, leading others down a dreadful path.

I pray that not too many people take Spong's depiction of Christianity as true Christianity.

it is just one more way this liberal theology is taking root these days. it is quite the tide of blasphemy. things like this really cheapen religion. he shows how he thinks all of these traditional values mean nothing to God. he is just showing people the easy way out which is all this new wave really is. :(

:o I have just done some research, and he seems to question the virgin birth, condemn traditional theology, and demand some sort of new reformation. all of these disturbing things from one man. the episcopalian church sinks farther and farther into a deep heresy by the day.
