Does anyone know anything about this church, which sounds Greek Patriarchate but is apparently on the Old Calendar ? What is the situation with that juxtaposition ?

Yes, I know that church. I had a hotel room nearby for six weeks. The ambassador identified it reasonably accurately as the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary in Athens. The Greek title uses “Theotokos” (Mother/Bearer/Birth-Giver of God) for “Virgin Mary.” In Athens, it is called “η μητρόπολη” (ē mētrópolē). It is the seat (cathedral church) of the Archbishop of Athens of the state church of Greece, which changed in 1924 from the canonical old Orthodox fixed-feast calendar to the uncanonical “revised Julian calendar,” which combines a new fixed-feast calendar (corresponding to the Gregorian) with the canonical Paschal cycle through the year. So, the cathedral is not “old calendar” and not “patriarchate” (it is not under any of the three Greek patriarchates) but under the new-calendarist autocephalous state church of Greece. The True Orthodox Christians of Greece, who retained the canonical Orthodox calendar, held at least one historic protest against the un-Orthodox calendar right in front of that church building. The peaceful protesters were violently attacked by the police. Such attacks frequently had the collaboration of the new-calendar (uncanonical) bishops. The future canonical-calendar Archbishop Auxentios of Athens was slightly injured in the police attack. Saint Philothei of Athens is buried in that church.
