THE APOCALYPSE: IN THE TEACHINGS OF ANCIENT CHRISTIANITY by Archbishop Averky Taushev

Post by Unseen.Warfare »

The Apocalypse--The Revelation of St. John the Theologian--is the only prophetic book of the New Testament. It is a book of mysteries--deep mysteries bound up with the beginning and end of all things, the ultimate purpose of the world and man, the opening of the eternal Kingdom of Heaven--which gives itself to a correct understanding and interpretation only with great difficulty.
Originally appearing in Russian, THE APOCALYPSE: IN THE TEACHINGS OF ANCIENT CHRISTIANITY by Archbishop Averky Taushev is the first complete Orthodox commentary on the book of Revelation to be published in the English language.

The difficult images and symbols are best examined separately in a reliable commentary like THE APOCALYPSE: IN THE TEACHINGS OF ANCIENT CHRISTIANITY based chiefly on the 5th-century commentary of St. Andrew of Caesarea. Archbishop Averky, a Holy Father of modern times, takes, verse by verse, the mystical writing of St. John, interpreting each passage with the help of Scripture parallels and Patristic references.

Lecture (introduction to Father Seraphim's course on the Book of Revelation), delivered in Platina in 1980 at the summer sessions of the New Valaam Theological Academy.

This lecture serves as an introduction to the course that Father Seraphim included in the book co-authored by him and Archbishop Averky (Taushev) titled "The Apocalypse in the Teaching of Ancient Christianity." The introduction precedes the book and presents many arguments that are not included in it.

Archbishop of Averky (Taushev).
Hieromonch Seraphim (Rose).
Apocalypse in the teachings of ancient Christianity. (Russian Edition)

Interpretation of Archbishop Averkia (Tausheva).
Editing, notes, introductory article and biography of the author, father Seraphim (Rose).

Under the general editorial board of abbot German (Podmoshensky).

In our apocalyptic century, the book "Apocalypse in the Teachings of Ancient Christianity" is interesting to many. Speaking of the end of the world, modern unorthodox authors are based on erroneous human hypotheses and presumptions more than on the God-revelational wisdom of the ancient Church. The publication of this book introduces the reader to the continuous authentic tradition of ancient Christianity regarding the last days.

Archbishop Averkius, the modern-day Holy Father in this tradition, leads us step-by-step through the spiritual writings of St. John, interpreting each passage with Biblical parallels and commentary from the God-inspired Teachers.

The book includes broad interpretations and an introductory material of Father Seraphim (Rose).
