The problem is that few people do have any confidence about stands on these topics because there is no educational background given in schools and no other way of learning the truth about anything to do with these nations. Unless one studies carefully on one's own, which is how I learned what I have managed to.
I encourage you to keep going, explore and read deeply to get to the real truth in the midst of conflicting claims.

Catholics have been taught [indoctrinated ?] that this was a great victory for the Italian forces over the Ottoman fleet.
Supposedly this was due to the Pope's having said his rosary that day, October 7.
But I have read more objective material saying that this victory was way exaggerated by the West and did not set the Ottomans back that much. So this is what I mean. I wish I had copied that information when I found it because I haven't seen it again. It was helpful to hear something which rang true.
