Leaving True Orthodoxy for World Orthodoxy?

Post by Maria »

The temptations are there, if only because the World Orthodox have more churches that are closer and can save gas. However, before anyone considers that act of regressive apostasy, consider these points. The list is not exhaustive, so please feel free to add your own points.

  1. World Orthodox are more involved in Ecumenism that ever before.
  • All the World Orthodox are in dialogue with the Roman Catholics, the Coptic Orthodox, the Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. Both the EP and the MP are courting the Pope of Rome. World Orthodox priests are even telling Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, and Buddhists to remain outside of Orthodoxy and become better Catholics, better Protestants, better Jews, better Muslims, and better Buddhists.

Now wait just a minute, a better Muslim is usually a radicalized Muslim (member of ISIS). What are these priests thinking?

  1. World Orthodox are cutting their services.
  • Most churches no longer serve the Akathist Hymn during Great Lent, the Paracleisis during the Fast of the Theotokos, nor Saturday evening Vespers or the All night vigil in preparation for Sunday.

  1. More and more World Orthodox Priests leave their cell phones on during the Divine Liturgy.
  • Some even carry their smart phones onto the altar area. Now wait, are't most people carrying smart phones today? Do you see the problem?

Some World Orthodox Priests have become so addicted to the Internet that World Orthodox Priests have been known to blog or post on Internet forums on Sunday morning just before the Divine Liturgy. What is wrong with their hearts?

  1. More and more World Orthodox Priest are no longer hearing confessions on Saturdays because there is no Great Vespers or All-Night Vigils. Antiochians and Greeks tend to hear confessions only four times a year before the major feast days.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

MOST World Orthodox churches do not offer a Saturday Vigil anymore ? Does that include the Vigil of Feast Days ?
That is a big change ! Is this mainly the Greeks ?
Is this trend becoming more widespread ??

Yes. Most of the World Orthodox Greek, Antiochian, and Serbian Orthodox Churches no longer offer a regular Saturday night all-night Vigil or Great Vespers service.

I do not know about the OCA or the ROCOR.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

I assume the latter 2 jurisdictions would continue to offer the Vigil.

I am not surprised about the Greeks and Antiochians.
That is really something that the Serbians don't anymore !
