Re: Myth of the Milky Way Galaxy
Why do the vast majority of our secular scientific "high priesthood" so desperately want to push this unsubstantiated notion upon us as some kind of dogma for which it is a heresy to call into question?
I will let Carl Sagan explain:
We Find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost between two spiral arms in the outskirts of a galaxy which is a member of a sparse cluster of galaxies, tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.
--from Sagan's famous and popular book, Cosmos, page 193, and considered a classic on cosmology for laymen
That is the real reason why there is such a shrill cacophony of protest and charges of heresy and "Crucify him!" or "Burn the witch!" anytime anyone says that we live on a privileged planet, because if we did, then that would mean, ultimately, that God exists and we are not free to do as we please and live our lives either oblivious to or, worse, in contradiction to His existence and His laws. One geocentrist has just released a documentary on this topic from a Christian point of view, Robert Sungenis, and who has Captain Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager, I mean traditional Catholic actress and proud mother of four, Kate Mulgrew, as the narrator of his beautiful and liberating film. Mr. Sungenis has this to say in light of the latest evidence now being buried by the damage control team, I mean science editors, of major media outlets:
As you can see, in sharp contrast to Carl Sagan's perspective that the Earth is lost in space, the scientific evidence shows we are, indeed, very special, since it appears we are placed at the very hub of the universe, motionless and serene, watched and cared for by Someone who apparently did not leave things to time and chance.
--R. Sungenis, Geocentrism 101, 2014, p.3.

Re: Myth of the Milky Way Galaxy
Maria wrote:I have seen the Milky Way pictured in these dramatic photos in real life, but one must be away from city lights......Seeing the Milky Way out in the open country far from civilization is so very different than poking one's head outside the house on a city block with city street lighting.
Indeed. That is what I said, when I started the thread. I grew up spending my summers in the Canadian wilderness. We have a cottage far away from the glare of any city. No light glow from distant city lights are visible on the horizon. The sky was perfect for unmitigated star gazing. And there was never any such a sight as seen in many photos of a galaxy like colourful blue and rose gasseous nebula like galaxy material, when the "milky way" was seen at my cottage. It was always simply a trail of "sugar grains" sprinkled across the sky. But nothing looking like a galaxy, much less did the night sky ever hint that we are near any blindingly huge ball of super-clustered trillionaire starmass. The claim that "interstellar dust" has the power to block out all that light of a trillion suns, every trace of it, at the heart of "our galaxy" is preposterous. Look at real undoctored raw photos of galaxies that do have a central mass of light and you will see that it is beyond explanation how such a vain hope of the anti-God cosmologists could possibly hold true. To completely black-out that much light is impossible. At best it might create a band of black in the sky with bright light leaking around it on both sides from the top and bottom of the huge ball. But what do we see? Nothing but darkness with a few stars and the band of "sugar dusting". NO matter where you stand on the globe there is no region where you look out and see any sign of a central mass of starlight. Just darkness with a smattering of stars. That's it. That's all.

Lest I be misunderstood, let me add that while I do not like presumption presented as fact, I do find astronomy fascinating. It is one of my life-long loves. "The heavens tell the glory of our God, and the working of His hands." And they are a real blessing to explore and consider in all their mystery and majesty. Here is a great page where you can quickly identify all kinds of beautiful galaxies at a glance with great pictures:
