Legal action against AU RCC Archbishop on same sex marriage

Post by Maria »

An Australian Catholic archbishop is facing legal action after recently distributing a pamphlet to local Catholic school children that supported Catholic teaching on marriage being between a man and woman.

“Dear Friends, I have received notification from the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner that a complaint made about me has been viewed as a possible breach of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas),” Archbishop Julian Porteous from the Archdiocese of Hobart in Tasmania posted yesterday to Facebook about the allegations of discrimination against him.

The 18-page pamphlet titled “Don’t Mess With Marriage” was put out by the country’s bishops and details the Church’s teaching on sexuality and marriage. The pamphlet states that it is “gravely unjust” to children, adults, and society to redefine marriage to allow for homosexual partnerships to be called “marriage.”

For a long time, certain groups have told us that homosexuals would never persecute Christians. They just want the right to get married.

First Christian florists, and then Christian bakeries and Christian wedding chapels were sued for discrimination. Now Christian pastors are facing legal sanction for simply publishing marriage guidelines to instruct their children.

I cannot teach in the public schools and universities even though I am qualified because the required Pearson textbooks have not one but five controversial topics of discussion that are against my Christian beliefs and would require me to teach or facilitate discussions that abortion, contraception, co-habitation, euthanasia/suicide, and same sex marriages are okay when they are not.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Awful news ! Good point about how the 'certain groups' blatantly lied in their promise to not persecute Christians.
I never would believe any such reassurances to begin with.

Any parties who did take them at their word must be deeply regretful now.

What is the face of the Western countries going to look like at this rate ? Terrifying.
I feel so sorry for poor Archbishop Porteous. I hope he can win the case. Even then, what a harassment to be forced to undergo.
