I never had any personal interactions with Bishop Alexander (Mileant), and therefore would have no reason to harbor any grudge or ill feelings toward the man.

From an objective standpoint, Bishop Alexander appears to have been captivated by the claims of the modern pseudo-scientific community. He had worked at the satanic occult agency NASA, and he attempted to reconcile Darwinian evolution with the Creation account, which simply is not possible. A ROCOR Matushka publicly stated on Paradosis that is why the older bishops in ROCOR scorned him, for his beliefs regarding Evolution.

Whatever his admirable personal qualities may have been, I regard him as of sorrowful memory, as his confession was not Orthodox. There was clearly something not right here.

Bishop Alexander worked with the Pasadena firm, JPL, which had contracts with NASA. Typical of most ROCOR parishes, Fr. Alexander had to put himself through college where he earned his degrees in engineering and science. Advanced college studies will stress any marriage. In his contact as a pastor with college students from USC, UCLA, and Cal Tech in Pasadena, he was trying to reconcile what he had learned from the Eastern Orthodox Church with what he had learned in Western universities in an attempt to save these students from atheism. Thus he started writing his many tracts and built his Internet web page, freely donating his time and labor.

Bishop Alexander's role as bishop should have been to faithfully transmit the teachings of the Holy Fathers and the Church to the flock of Christ, not to try to reconcile what clearly cannot be reconciled, that is, ungodly and atheistic worldly philosophy with the Divine teachings of the Word of God, as interpreted through the mind of the Church.

Bishop Alexander's approach was vain and clearly hostile to the church, and therefore could only fall flat and fail. Fr. Seraphim Rose was working on publishing a composition regarding Genesis and the Creation of the World, viewed through the wisdom of Holy Church, and his approach was the Orthodox one.

Interesting discussion. Yes, no one is perfect ! I agree that the duty of all Bishops is to faithfully transmit the Church's teachings and those of the Holy Fathers.

Maybe the older Bishops should have reined in the papers Bishop Alexander wrote touching on evolution, politely but firmly. It's true that the two are irreconcilable. Better to have published an expose of how evolutionary theory was a total fraud from the start which deceived millions and millions of otherwise intelligent people.

There is or was a Professor at Berkeley [?] who successfully documented this fakery. I would have to look up his name. He wrote books and once was invited to give a talk to the parish, so I vividly remember his excellent expose of evolution.
I get nauseated at the very word, myself, as a result ! I never believed it for a minute anyway. But he proved it scientifically.

As for Fr Alexander, he did accomplish a lot. It's a lesson in how difficult it is to avoid being tainted by the biased thought of professors and teachers these days. Increasingly so as education becomes completely controlled by the agenda of you know who and their lackeys !
