I was reading his memoirs of Optina and noticed his repose day was listed as July 24, the very morning I was reading this section. However, I could not find anything online or elsewhere about him to determine whether this was a New Calendar or Old Calendar date. Except that he was the Priest in Algiers, Algeria who married the Kontzevitchs [Ivan and Helen], well known writers about Optina and other Orthodox topics from the 1950s through the 1970s.
No other mention is made of this priest so it is difficult to tell whether he was a Rocor Priest or not. I assume the Algerian Church would have been Rocor, as the Tunisian one was certainly so, as we all know from the world-famous picture of St John Maximovitch serving in the altar there surrounded by light.
Does anyone know any more details about Fr Basil Shoustin after leaving Russia ? Where did he repose and where is he buried ? Perhaps at Jordanville ?
By the way, another date is given elsewhere for his repose [August 3/ 16].
