Re: Demission of Gabriel (de Vylder) of "Comana" Paris
The heat seems going up in Daru street and now Archbishop Job is facing serious public accusations from many sides.
The first question is about the Church court that had to deal with the case of Father Christophe d'Aloisio in Belgium. This priest is a priest of the Russian exarchate in Belgium and a civil servant in Belgium because he was appointed in Belgium as a sort of supervisor for orthodox teaching in public schools. Some religions are recognised in Belgium, granting them some advantages like catechism in school. For a reason that is not really clear, father Christophe entered in conflict with the Greek metropolitan in Belgium, who is also the official voice of orthodoxy in the country. It seems the Metropolitan wanted him to resign from his office of supervisor; since he refused, the Metropolitan sued him in front of the civil courts (because it is a civil case) and at the same time sued him in front of the ecclesiastical court of the Russian exarchate, because the priest was daring to oppose a metropolitan in front of a civil court...
The Daru church court has to examine the case and it was done in the strangest way according to Father Christopher and to Father Ambroise, member of the tribunal who consequetly resigned from it.
The 1st audience was supposed to take place on May 15th, 2009; but Father Christopher was informed it was postponed due to his health problem
Surprisingly, he received, a decision from the court dated of May 29, 2015 telling the audience took place and that he did not come on May 15th, that later the court took a decision on May 29th and that on June 9th, archbishop accepted this decision; the decision is basically as far as I know to let Constantinople decide.
The surprise became bigger because a member of the court, Father Ambrose, wrote a letter denoucing how things happened; the court never met but was forced by the Archbishop to sign the verdict that was proposed to them.
Everything is told there.
The second blow to archbishop Job is the open letter from the board of priests and laymen that make up the archbishopry council. The full open letter is here.
They reproach the following:
the refusal to gather the Council of Archbishopry
the creation of 2 positions that are not envisioned by the statuses of the Exarchate: general vicar and econom
changing the mailbox and the keys
the aforementionned case of the tribunal
a work lunch with 20 persons in the restaurant Laurent for 200 euros per person paid by a mysterious benefactor (4,000 euros should have been used better)
censorship of the dissenting voices
appointment and removal of priests without consultation
expenses that are made without the assent of the council etc

Archimandrite, was there mention of the notorious photos of Ab. Job looking like Joe tennis fan instead of wearing his
normal clerical street attire in the letter from the Archbishop's Council ? Was that considered too minor of a point ?
I am still shocked at this behavior : having pictures taken next to a scantily clad woman tennis player.
But I appreciate your allowing me to travel to Paris, near the Elysee Palace, seeing the Laurent Restaurant website !
The building and style looked very familiar. I felt right at home ! Thanks really a lot, it uplifted my spirits.
Now, note for fun that one of the salons has what looks like a large portrait of Russian Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich on the wall :

Looks like the restaurant, in the 8e arrondissement, has either 1 or 2 Michelin stars, meaning it's good but not totally top cuisine.
Probably the decor is a major draw. I wonder whether the "20 persons" had their working lunch on the terrasse ? That is supposed to be fantastique ! The lunches are costly, so one can see why 4,000 euros were burned through fast.
I wonder who or what organization that mysterious sponsor was ?? Do you have any guesses, Archimandrite ? You are following this the most closely. Thanks for your updates on this ever-ongoing, it seems, upheaval at Rue Daru.
Hope you can manage a "secret benefactor" - a TOC one, of course - to take YOU to lunch at the Imperial Salon at Laurent !! You deserve it after all your work keeping us informed about European events in Orthodoxy.

I am so sorry, Jean-Serge ! My apology to you. You are a gold mine of information to help us navigate these tricky backwater channels of the Rue Daru events.
OK, maybe all 3 of us can treat ourselves to a meal at Laurent to soothe all wounded feelings and unintended slights !
[ Well, at those prices, maybe a plain salad without dressing ? ]
