What I meant was that the Greek State Church or maybe even the World Orthodox in general, if they knew about any of this [the latter could have been collaborators in this persecution, or perhaps a few hierarchs were informed about these operations kept a lid on information about this. They probably made sure that little or no whispers got out to the world beyond Greece. Probably very few New Calendarists in Greece itself knew about it.
Surely, they would have been outraged had they known, and protested to their hierarchs.
So I am wagering that it was one of those "inside jobs" where the people in the know were in agreement
about employing brutal tactics to stop the growth of the Old Calendarist movement. Perhaps, if this opposition was organized early enough, to nip it in the bud before it spread widely. Hence secrecy would have been the name of the game for the New Calendarist Greeks.
I didn't mean that our esteemed Euphrosynos Cafe members and readers were not in the know, Jean-Serge !
I obviously had never heard of any of those fierce physical attacks. I am still shocked.
To stomp on a chalice so hard that it would be flattened is breathtakingly evil !
I wish there were a picture of that chalice which Lydia says she heard is preserved by Abp Kallinikos.
