"relics" of Pat. Alexei ? Or or of St Alexey ???

Post by Barbara »

Scary if this report MEANT Alexei the former "patriarch", who formalized the 2007 union of MP and a once-free Rocor !
I hope and pray that it's the great Miracle-worker, St Alexey, Metropolitan of Moscow, whose relics lie in the Yelohovsky Cathedral. I venerated those myself. But we all get touchy about that cathedral because Met Sergius of Sergianism ill-fame is ALSO buried there, on the left as I recall.

Maybe someone can enlighten me if Pat Alexei [Ridiger] was entombed some other place. That would clarify this alarming ambiguity. Surely the text was meant to convey St Alexey, Metropolitan of Moscow.
But why would it be written "and all Russia" - that was the red flag....

"On Saturday, January 31, 2015, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Vice Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, officiated at all-night vigil at Epiphany Cathedral in Elokhovo, Moscow, on the Eve of the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee. After venerating the relics of St Alexey of Moscow and All Russia, the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and other relics, His Grace prayed at vespers and then emerged from the altar for polyeleos. After the reading of the Gospel and the singing of "Open the doors to repentance, o Giver of Life," Vladyka Nicholas anointed the multitude of worshipers."

Thank you, Jean-Serge. I appreciate having gotten an answer. I checked the link and realized I only knew parts of his life, the connection with St Sergius and Prince Dimitry Donskoy.

I never even heard of his healing of the Tatar Queen Mother !
Has anyone seen this movie, "The Horde" ? Is it any good ? I am putting it on my list to check out some day.

Referring to that notation on Rocor-MP website, at least they had the grace to leave out the presence of the loathsome character buried there [ MOST unwisely ! ]. I vote for a "translation" of the remains of Sergius to some backwater parish graveyard, out of the way of pilgrims wanting to venerate St Alexey the Miracle-Worker !

You can see the movie on Netflix. I watched a little...its brutal. I thought it was interesting that it was paid for by The Moscow Patriarchate.
