Anyone have any idea why the appeal of Francis in particular ? Is it the programming by Hollywood, in movies like
Brother Sun, Sister Moon ? I remember seeing that growing up but it didn't have a huge affect on me.

It could be because he was the first recorded person to bear the stigmata or maybe because he was the first Doctor Doolittle. But getting back to my original question, if I could rephrase it a bit, has anyone heard of the practice of two or more godmothers or multiple godparents in any of the traditional Orthodox jurisdictions?

Apparently, the monastics who were received into the OCA were Franciscans. They had priests, monks, nuns, and also married Tertiaries. And furthermore, for some strange reason, they were allowed to keep their Roman Catholic practices and RC icons. This should make anyone question the OCA.

Beside it being permitted for one to have two godmothers, my World Orthodox cousin said she has heard of some people having 5-6 godparents. This is permitted in World Orthodoxy according to her. What I want to know is if this is practiced in traditional jurisdictions. Is this a new innovation as I believe or has this always been permitted, as I doubt. Does anyone, preferably a priest, have a definitive answer ?
