Re: Congratulations to Newly Elected Metropolitan Demetrius!
From an email sent by Father Panagiotes Carras:
The Holy Synod of the Hierarchs of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece, during its meeting on February 6/19, 2014, on the Feast day of St. Photios the Great, Patriarch of Constantinople, at the Church of the Unfading Rose, chose k. Demetrios Kyriakou of Boston, to be the successor of His Eminence, Metropolitan Pavlos at the Metropolis of America.
The newly elected was born in the city of Toronto, Canada on November 28, 1974 (n.s.) and was a parishioner of the parish of St. Nektarios of the Holy Orthodox Church of North America. His parents are from Florina, Macedonia.
In 1994 he followed the path of Monasticism at the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration in Boston. He was ordained Deacon in 1999, Presbyter in 2005 and Bishop in 2006. In 2012 he entered the ranks of the canonical Church of the G.O.C. and assumed the Diocese of Boston. On February 6/19, 2014 he was chosen Metropolitan of America.
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
