Why are polygamous marriages and fornication forbidden?

Post by JamesR »

[...]

What is so special about monogamy? Especially in regards to sex. What Holy treasures and riches does God give within a monogamous sexual relationship between two married people? I mean, I'll be honest, as an adolescent male, the thought of only having one sexual partner forever seems kind of harsh and odd to me. Wouldn't you get bored of the same thing every time, same person, same routine, etc? Promiscuity and polygamy to a degree seems more fun from a sexual standpoint. Yet, I know it's vain and that God condemns it, but still, I just don't quite get what's so special about the monogamy that God has appointed for us. [...] Pray that God removes this veil from me and reveals to me what the treasures and riches are of following His rules for sexual conduct, but for now, I really don't get it. I mean, I'm still a virgin and I'm almost 18 years old, and I've never even kissed a female, [...] but I can't help but feel like I'm going through all this effort to be chaste for really nothing. I don't quite get what's so special about being a virgin for my wife if God ever gives me one, and I don't quite get why casual sex every once in a while to relieve our passions is so wrong.

James,

Your post had to be edited as it was too sexually explicit. Please be careful.

Know that I am praying for you.

In Christ,

Why are polygamous marriages and fornication forbidden?

Dear James,

We are Christians, who have been set apart by our Holy Baptism and holy Chrismation. We have been called to be God's chosen race, the New Israel. St. Paul urges us to flee sexual immorality, which includes fornication, adultery, etc. If we do the things that pagans and unbelievers do, then we revert like the female dog to her vomit. What will be our answer to Christ our God and our Judge at the Last Judgment? How can we be prepared to meet Christ our King and our God, if we allow our souls to be defiled with impure thoughts arising from inflamed passions?

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

But why did God give me certain passions if He doesn't want me to satisfy them? I guess my problem is reconciling God's way with nature, which seem very opposed. And the fact that God made nature makes it confusing, like, He made me a certain way and then He's telling me not to be the way I was made.

What God has created is good.

However, men tend to abuse/pervert what is good and use it for evil (narcissism).
Christians must struggle and be constantly aware of the lies and temptations from the devil, so the Church prays:

  • From all dangers and perils, deliver us. Most Holy Theotokos, save us.

Just by discussing this matter, you are stirring up your passions and that of others.
Please be careful and talk with your priest. Remember to pray the Paracleisis [small canon] to the Theotokos

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
