Fr. Alexander Iwaszewicz of ROCA in COMCAR prison

For almost a year now since October 2012, Father Alexander Iwaszewicz has been held in a very dangerous Uruguay prison while he waits for a trial. Parishioners believe that Father Alexander has been unjustly framed by MP operatives because the MP is upset that this former ROCOR church refused to come under the MP.

I was just sent this email:

• Update today: Fr Alexander has not been released despite some recent optimism. COMCAR is far from being a safe place. Please keep praying, disseminating information to as many people as you can, sign the petition (if you have not) and send postcards/letters to Fr Alexander. Evil happens when good men remain silent (or something like that). To all who have prayed sent letters, signed the petition, Fr Alexander and his family are deeply moved by your support- I know because they have told me. He prays for all of you. Here is the new address for Fr Alexander. Please keep your post cards & letters going. They really mean a lot to Fr Alexander. It is such a small thing that each one of us can do.

I had no idea about this situation, so I looked it up. This is WHY he is being held for the past year, plus an update.

Here is a but a portion of the background on Why:

Father Alexander Iwaszewicz worked for an international company that has a branch in Uruguay. This company made a transfer of money and by signing a document, Fr. Alexander assumed responsibility. The amount itself is ludicrous, compared with the crime being charged against Fr. Alexander: money laundering. According to what we now know, this trial was sparked by a rumor that the Uruguayan government took very seriously. When on November 1st, he was questioned in Uruguayan court, the District Attorney's aggressiveness caused Fr. Alexander to pass out and be taken to the hospital. A few hours later, he came to. Due to the lack of a good medical examination, it is not known whether the collapse was due to simply a drop in blood pressure or something more serious such as a micro heart attack.

The parents of Father Alexander attempted to visit him in prison on November 3d. They were allowed to see him for only 5 minutes. To enter the prison they were subjected to a humiliating an extremely intrusive "pat-down" search. Father Valentine was not allowed to enter with his cassock, or bring the Holy Sacraments, which is a violation of human rights in the allegedly democratic country which respects the freedom of religion. After all, Fr. Alexander is not being held in isolation. Therefore, it is a violation of his basic human rights to not allow him to receive Holy Communion. According to other inmates, Fr. Alexander has now gone several days without eating.

Update Fr Alexander Iwaszewicz

Due to changing Fr Alexander Lawyers the hearing will not occur today as first thought. Instead see message below from Matushka Liza.
Hello!
I wanted to let you know that we did change lawyers.
They have already visited Fr Alexander ‘s prison 2 times, and next week will be presented to the Judge.
God grant that these lawyers correct the mistakes and achieve an early release for Father Alejandro.

How alarming !
I am shuddering.

I remember his - brother ? - the priest Fr Paul - was quite a stalwart defender of Orthodoxy.

Is his brother involved in releasing him, anyone have a clue ?

I feel really bad for this POOR victim of evil aggression.

Let's all sign the petition on his behalf and pray because it's the right thing anyway
But also could be any of OUR jurisdictions' clergy targeted.
We have to ALL work together on this, doesn't everyone agree ?
