Bulgarian Orthodox Metropolitan Kiri found dead

Post by Maria »

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church’s Metropolitan of Varna, Kiril, has been found dead on a Black Sea beach, the Holy Synod said on July 9 2013, citing official confirmation from local police. ...

Kiril, born in 1954, was among the most controversial figures in the church, not only for being revealed to have been one of the several senior clergy to have been an agent for Bulgaria’s communist-era State Security but also for his luxury car and alleged taste for an opulent lifestyle.

Bishop Tikhon suspects that Met. Kiri "dived too deep and was caught in a cold-water current."

Speaking to television channel bTV, Tikhon said: “We were all surprised by what happened yesterday because he was a good swimmer. But we people always overestimate our abilities. The truth is that when one is caught in such a cold current, their muscles seize up and they can neither breathe, nor move.”

Varna district prosecutor Vladimir Chavdarov told bTV that prosecutors had asked for a report on the sea currents in the area where Kiril had drowned.

Ew !

What to think ??

I didn't read that second link, I am sorry, but I figured it would not tell very much evidence at this early stage of
the investigation.

WHO is suspected, however ?

I see it as not at all unusual, especially with the revelation so recently.
Who would have pushed him ?

Many deaths by drowning have been pulled off over the years.
Let's think of White Russian emigre actress from several decades ago, Natalie Wood, for one.
Authorities reopened that investigation but have not done much except use her name to generate publicity.

Hope the truth will come out quickly for any such chilling events.

Since this information is from a yahoo.com group, it may not be credible.

This is the link provided in Russian: http://www.sedmitza.ru/text/3890782.html

Apparently, the clergy and the faithful of Met. Kiri's former diocese at Varna
have refused to accept the election of Met. Kalinnik as the administrator of this diocese.

The election of Metropolitan Kalinnik as the administrator of Varna diocese
raised eyebrows among the Bulgarian clergy and the faithful, as the Bulgarian
Orthodox Church usually appointed as administrators to the widowed dioceses
bishops of neighboring dioceses -- so that when organizing the election of the
new metropolitan the interim administrator would not have to make long
journeys. In this case, the administrator of the eastern diocese of Varna was
the hierarch located at the opposite end of Bulgaria. However, as reported by
Bulgarian media, relations between the deceased and the Metropolitan Kalinnik
had always been very strained.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Which diocese would that be ? Maybe the old region of Illyria from ancient times ?
Just a guess without looking at map.

I didn't look at the Russian language site, as it is sometimes awkward to extract information from machines,
as we English-speakers all are aware.

So, sorry if that site mentioned the new Met Kallinik's present diocese.

That IS a good plan : to appoint the hierarch from the next diocese over as temporary administrator.

The fact these two had friction REALLY strikes the observer.

This made me feel even more eerie !

I got one piece of feedback.
That this Met was killed by the Bulgarian Mafia because he was resisting a state takeover of
church property or properties. ( ?? )
These things are so complex that one may add in multiple clues but never get to
the real explanation.
