Position of RTOC (Tykhon) concerning Name Worshipping

Post by Dcn.Alexander »

Bless,

Could any of you point me to some documents in English regarding the position of the RTOC (Tykhon) synod as concerns the issue with Name Worshipping? I am interested to see this Synod's "Official" position on this issue. I beg your pardon if this is posted already on this site - I just joined and I am still getting familiar with the tools and format that is offered.

With thanks in Christ,

fr. dcn. alexander

The site above is no longer working.

Father Siluan of the RTOC posted somewhere about Name Worshipping. I will search and post some links.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

The RTOC has yet to publish an official document stating our position on Name-worshipping and the issues surrounding the controversy. Several clergymen and laypeople have published articles and made their views known, but there hasn't been any official statement approved by the Synod.

But certainly the RTOC is against the heresy, since the Russian Church condemned it almost a century ago?

There are so many arguments and polemics around, especially on the internet, concerning Nameworshipping and the veneration of the Name, and the difference between worship and veneration, and the relationship between this teaching ad palamism and hesychasm, and a lot of it touches upon other issues as well. The RTOC wants to be doubly careful to produce a statement that cannot be misconstrued in any way, and has therefore refrained from publishing one as of yet.

This makes sense as it appears that HOCNA and HOTCA are talking past each other. Even if RTOC were to pen an excellent teaching, I doubt that it would appease those who are entrenched in Name-worshipping. Let us pray for a clear teaching that cannot be misconstrued or distorted if this is possible. Lord have mercy.
