The trouble with genetic engineering is that a gene may be capable of expressing more than one trait. There is also a theory that the configuration of the nucleotide strand may be altered (by environmental factors, or even viruses) resulting in a gene that may be harmful to the organism or those who ingest it.
This is ,in my opinion, an unnatural and unholy manipulation of the basics of life.
Didn't Our Lord forbid the hybridization of plants and animals? I'm sure its in the Old Testament. I just can't find it right now...

I'm constantly perplexed by the obsession with adverse health effects of GMO foods, and other doom mongering about how we're all going to die of cancer from this or that. It is quite obvious that, on average, we are much healthier than our ancestors of centuries ago. We know this simply by observing our mortality rate. We do suffer more from illnesses that previously were only associated with the luxurious lives of the very rich, e.g. obesity, diabetes and so forth. But that only proves yet more how much more privileged we are today in material terms. The problems we face today are, to me, obviously of a purely spiritual, not a material nature.

Concern with GMO foods is not an obsession on our part, but on those mad, arrogant, and officious scientists at Monsanto, Dole, and other bio-engineering firms who want a monopoly on the world's seed supply. These firms want to play "God," and by our silence we give them consent. While the Americans have slept, Europe has almost overwhelmingly rejected the use of GMO foods.

I am sure that you have read C.S. Lewis' That Hideous Strength. Through novels, Lewis was warning us about these academic cabals and what they could do to destroy our planet.

I am chemically sensitive. If I eat any food that is not organically grown, especially tomatoes, I get sick.
I reacted to Roundup immediately. After only one use, I became dizzy, disoriented, and nauseated.

1. They are modifying our basic foods with genes when they do not have sufficient knowledge as to the effects of these genes.
2. They are modifying plants such as rice and wheat with genes from animal sources(pigs, mostly, cows and fish) Does this not disturb you? Does it effect the Orthodox fasts? Are we now, in fact, eating meat and fish as we consume our rice and pasta? What about Holy Communion? Is the Prosfora contaminated by bovine genes?
   The point is, this law is going to make it impossible to know what foods have been genetically modified. I, for one, would simply like to know.

This is an ethical issue.

Farmers in India who are growing GMO cotton are claiming that their workers in the fields have complained about unexplainable rashes, cancers, and strange illnesses. These farmers are committing suicide in record numbers.

What these monopolies are doing is criminally reprehensible, yet these very firms have asked for political protection from Congress and from the President so that they will not have to face criminal courts and civil jury awards.

Forgive me, Maria. I didn't understand how this affected you personally.

No problem.

Most people do not understand how people can be so chemically sensitive.

My condition stems from the nuclear tests that were done in the Nevada desert
during the mid 1950s when I lived in Reno, Nevada as a young child.
My sister who was conceived and born during that time is in much worse shape than I.
How the US government could subject its citizens to nuclear fallout defies logic!
None of us had any follow-up by the health department.
In a sense, I am glad that I was not prodded, poked like a guinea pig, and given more drugs.
During the attacks on our own US soil, we were given massive doses of potassium iodide
to which I am now deathly allergic. As a result, my immune system has been compromised.
I must stay away from most chemicals, especially the halogen family,
and avoid all iodine in my diet, and that is no easy task as most salt is doped with iodine.
Consider that almost all drinking water, drugs, pesticides and herbicides, including Roundup,
now contain fluoride or fluoride ions, and that almost all processed foods contain iodized salt,
the problem is only magnified.

C.S. Lewis was well aware of these "scientific" experiments when he wrote
That Hideous Strength (1946) as the atrocities of the Nazi experiments
and the horrible effects of the nuclear bombings of Japan by the USA were covered in the world media.
