New US Plan Calls for More Scanning of Private Emails

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

New US Plan Calls for More Scanning of Private Emails

Since this is a Reuter's story, my computer is prevented from doing a copy and paste maneuver. Thus, I am providing only a brief summary here.

Since cyber terrorism has become a major threat to the USA, by executive order, the Department of Homeland Security has expanded a program to scan emails, not only of private citizens, but also of corporate America and all defense contractors.

News sources have recently said that Verizon and AT&T already have the protection of law to cooperate with the U.S. Government in looking for any suspicious activity, including viruses and malware.

We must be sober and watchful. All our posts and email communications should be stellar examples of the love of God who dwells within us. Then we have no reason to fear.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Very well said, Maria. All our communications should reflect our Faith and be done with a mind to pleasing Our Saviour.
As an aside, it is still illegal for anyone, including the government(without a subpoena), to intercept, interfere with or open letter mail. So, maybe we should go back to writing letters, especially if privacy is important.

Eww !
I started feeling less free in my emails recently. No wonder.

Why were they not scanning the emails of you know who and his paramour mentioned in the other thread here in Misc., I wonder ?!
Instead, massive resources are WASTED on scrutiny of ordinary people.

Things have spiraled so far out of control.

But, going back to letter writing is a nice thing, actually !
It is so much more elegant and civilized. Just takes longer to arrive, and there are the vagaries of the postal service,
especially if they [God forbid] stop Saturday postal deliveries.

Time to sharpen those quill pens, don't you all think ?!
