HR 933: Monsanto Protection Act signed by Pres. Obama

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

HR 933: Monsanto Protection Act signed by Pres. Obama

  • If approved, the Monsanto Protection Act would force the USDA to allow continued planting of any GMO crop under court review, essentially giving backdoor approval for any new genetically engineered crops that could be potentially harmful to human health or the environment.

Federal courts would be powerless to regulate the sale and even cultivation of illegal and dangerous GMO crops....

We must fight this beastly Farmer Assurance Provision, Sec. 735 that is found in the Senate Continuing Resolution spending bill.

Please look at this petition, and ask your friends, relatives, and neighbors to sign it.

If we do nothing, then the forces of evil will certainly triumph.

Lord have mercy.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Yes, I think we should go back to pre-engineered crops that required lots of harmful pesticides and fertilizers.

Pre-engineered crops will be a blessing, if seed still can be found. Many seed companies have been acquired by Monsanto, so it is difficult to find heirloom seeds.

Please look at this new thread with research which demonstrates that GMO foods need more Roundup than previously disclosed as weeds develop more resistance to herbicides.

If you don't mind, I'm going to be my usual contrarian self again. ;)

Firstly, there's been genetic engineering since the dawn of agriculture: all the "natural" grains we use were originally artificially engineered from wild forms through selective breeding.

Secondly, the reason we invented pesticides, herbicides and more advanced genetic engineering was because our earlier strains were constant victims of disease, insects, weeds and weather. The results was frequent famines and chronic malnutrition. All you have to do is look at the average height over the past thousand years or so. So basically I'm not sympathetic to the radical anti-GMO position.

That being said, I'm all for consumer vigilance. Monsanto or any company should not be allowed to sell products that have not passed review by the regulators.
