Happiness Without Technology

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Happiness Without Technology

Post by Matthew »

====================================

  • Emma Orbach, 58, has shunned society, living in a mudhut she built herself
    -The Oxford graduate named her home Tir Ysbrydol, which means ‘spirit land’ in Welsh, where she has banned technology
  • She fetches water from a stream and keeps three goats, seven chickens and two horses

Mrs Orbach said: ‘This is how I want to live. This lifestyle makes me feel really happy and at peace and this is my ideal home.’

from the summary, that sounds like I what I would like, too, though I want electrical power and heat and running water as a minimum.
Otherwise, learning to rough it is a really good idea.

Getting away the horrible buzz of cellphones and all that would really improve life. I can't stand when people
are talking on them and disturbing everyone else. Especially when they are self-conscious and trying to "be seen"
by their peers while having so many "important conversations" which are probably nothing, anyway !
