Watch out for deer when driving

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Watch out for deer when driving

Post by Barbara »

This quick article was tailored for Thanksgiving vacation.

But the same threat always lingers when on lonely mountain roads, or even
Interstates !

I advise to get the Deer Warning gadgets and put them on a car before any
trip outside a city area.

I remember when I went to Romania, there was a wonderful tour guide.
Though it was still the Communist era, he took us to Orthodox churches and
the marvelous monasteries for which Romania is so famous.

Later, maybe 10 - 15 years after, I was sorry to see a story appear in San Francisco
Examiner Travel Section about how the writer was on a drive with this same guide, Nick, and
a deer jumped out at their car. Unfortunately, it plastered itself completely across the windshield
and ruined the car -- and the author's trip !

I wouldn't have read the story had my eye not caught that familiar name.

The dramatic tale set in a rural Romanian milieu pounded in how very worth it is to PRAY for safety.
Also to not be lazy and go buy the Deer Warning devices to
attach to the front bumper of any cars one may be driving or a passenger in on a longer trip.

One of our acquaintances had their windshield plastered with a stray deer on a lonely road in the Los Angeles foothills. They took pictures of it because the insurance company did not believe their story.

We used to have deer in our neck of the woods, and they were a sight to behold as they grazed on our neighbors front lawn, but cougars have apparently killed off the herd.

Is there also a cougar warning device? We could use one as cougars occasionally roam our yard and neighborhood in search of raccoons, coyotes, cotton-tails, opossums, and bobcats. They have left their paw prints (3.5 to 4 inches in diameter) and scats as evidence. Occasionally, we hear them growl or stalk prey near our bedroom or living room windows between 5 PM to 10 PM and then again from 3 AM to 9 AM in the morning.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

I still have a small scar on my face from when a buck jumped into the convertible I was riding in, as a passenger. There is always something fun in rural life.

Absolutely! That is, as long as my kids don't all become monastics

Wow, those stories are eye-opening! A deer jumping in the car -? I have never heard of such a frightening experience !

Cougars roaming through Maria's yard? Another amazing thing to imagine ! Could be she lives out in those canyons to attract
cougars. I think they are neat. From a distance !

Antonios, it's good if your children DO become monastics.

With the amount of PEOPLE roaming around predatorially, snapping up nice but uninitiated people who aren't informed about how
dangerous this type of person is,
sometimes it is better to avoid marriage in America these days.
Only if one knows the person IN PERSON and idealy over a long time, can it be safe.
This is my thought after reading lots of horror stories about stupid people who signed up for a "dating site" or "social site".
The dangerous party typically hides himself or herself until the very last minute, refuses to meet in person, or even speak on a phone, demanding only to communicate
by cellphone text message [good reason to not have a cell phone ! Can weed out bad contacts right away].
Then the dangerous type pushes his or her innocent victim into a flash marriage - of course NEVER EVER in a Church -
[people asking for civil marriages are an automatic NO !].
This causes so much heartache especially because part of the plan is to produce children specifically to have a hold on
that party forever through the child or children.

Rather than make a bad choice like this, being so=called swept off one's feet, it is wise to not fall for such preyers -
and say one's PRAYERS for God to give the right spouse, not through human calculations like "If I just join this bla bla,
I can meet an eligible person for marriage". Better to just do the right thing every day and God will lead one to the right party.

Or to work entirely on one's spiritual life and become a monastic or similar. After all, the Church needs them, especially today
when the overall quality is not that high as it should be !
