Resolution from the 1978 ROCOR Council of Bishops about "Western Rite":

RESOLVED:

The Western rite in its present form was introduced after the apostasy of the west from the Orthodox Church and is not in accord with the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church with which it had been united for the course of many centuries. It does not reflect the Orthodox Church's liturgical tradition.

Thus, it does not satisfy converts to Orthodoxy when they familiarize themselves with it to a greater degree, and has nowhere enjoyed success. In consequence of the above, the Council of Bishops does not recognize it as possible to permit the Western Rite in the Russian Church.

As we can see the new "ROCOR" or ROCOR-MP neither has nothing to do with the old and true ROCOR with regard to this point ...

In response to the AWRV and liturgy of St Tikhon which ROCOR-MP blesses.

True Orthodox Western riters adhere to the concerns of the 1978 resolution.

Sorry, Jonathan, but I'd like to say that in public, since he is generalizing-- and intentionally, based on what he knows in our discussions-- what "Western rite" people are.

ROCOR had Western rite parishes once again in it-- using the Tridentine liturgy, such as in Christminster in RI (now in Canada)-- however, as early as 1990-- which would be the same period where both ROAC and RTOC Bishops were first made and elevated by ROCOR.

I am surprised that the Russian Orthodox Church has seemingly (based on this quote) rejected Western Rites. Vladimir Moss has written a great deal about Orthodox England and the Celtic saints who all kept the Western Rite, such as the ancient Sarum Rite, and yet such liturgies are entirely Orthodox in form and spirit.

I see this letter has been linked to in 2 places.

So because of the discussion about the picture accompanying that epic letter,
why not to discuss the letter itself on the World Orthodox thread started by Maria
and the picture here ? If anyone wants to say more.

I think Fr Siluan said it right : "disguised".
Bp Jerome - even the name is difficult to get used to -
just looks like he is having fun dressed up as a Bishop !
He doesn't look authentic in either garb !
That smile, too, is as phony as one has ever seen in his entire life.

Thank God that Fr Victor Melehov challenged this "actor" - for that is what he certainly
appears to be, per the letter's amazing revelations about him and his fellow conspirators
to bring Rocor into the Moscow Patriarchate's greedy clutches.

Is this the crypto papist Bishop Jerome he is writing to? Why would you bother writing to this Latinizer? What answers could he give you?

"The spouse of Christ cannot be adulterous, she is uncorrupted and pure, She knows one home; she guards with chaste modesty the sanctity of one couch. She keeps us for God. She appoints the sons whom she has born for the Kingdom. Whoever is separated from the Church and is joined to an adulteress is separated from the promises of the Church; nor can he who forsakes the Church of Christ attain to the rewards of Christ."

The point is to illuminate how far astray the pushers of the union with Moscow have gone in a very short time,
highlighting Bp Jerome's case which everyone can AGREE is a big "roll-the-eyes".

Some people are simply papal and just don't know it yet themselves. What can you do? Talking to them, especially that man who has more excuses than he has sense, only gets you frustrated and them convinced that Orthodoxy is wrong and their innovationist path is right. Prelest is crazy that way, isn't it?
