TOC Incense and Candles

Post by Matthew »

Where can I buy good quality incense, and/or beeswax Candles from a TOC jurisdiction?
I have usually bought my incense from the ROCOR monastery that used to be in House Springs Missouri, and now are in Virginia I think. Anyways, while I like their incense, I feel I should not support members of the MP financially while our own people are having such a hard time to make ends meet. So I want to switch to TOC suppliers and makers of Incense and candles.

Thanks!

Our congregation actually makes beeswax candles for other churches to buy. Our web address is candles4prayer.com

If you want to purchase candles for personal use though, we route all of those orders to a man in our congregation who got us started in the candle business and showed us how to do everything. His web address is orthodoxcandleshop.com

Troparion of St. Philaret of New York
Let us the faithful now come together to praise our father, protector and teacher the pillar of the Orthodox faith and firm defender of piety even the wondrous hierarch Philaret and let us glorify our Saviour Who has granted us his incorrupt relics as a manifest sign of his sanctity.

Have you heard of bee collapse and bee parasites that are posing a serious threat to our honeybees throughout the USA?
Let us pray that scientists help find a quick resolution as parasitic flies are laying their eggs in the bodies of honeybees and destroying hives.

Re: Pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

If you have a icon lamp, you can place olive oil in these lamps. Do any of our True Orthodox have olive groves where they produce their own olive oil? Many places in Italy are now controlled by the Mafia which mixes inferior canola and hazelnut oil with the olive oil and then they dare to sell it as 100% pure extra virgin olive oil. Apparently, there is no testing to certify that oils are 100% olive oil, thus the fraud continues.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Thank you for the info on candles. Also, I was not aware that there was such fraud going on in Italy. How did you learn of this? Are the sources of info entirely reliable? I would not expect that in the EU.

It has been reported on several news sources on TV. I also saw a very reliable online article, but I would have to search.
Just recently The Doctors (on CBS) had a segment of their show where they talked about olive oil from Italy being cut with canola oil.

I guess the best source would be olive oil from estates in Greece that are owned by the church.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Thank you, Maria. That is rather sad news. I love olive oil. I wonder if Greek, or maybe Spanish oil is better...

Yes, isn't olive oil a great thing?

I wanted to make a suggestion for discerning olive oil afficionados [like me, too].

Portuguese Organic Olive Oil may be the best.

There is wonderful brand called "Da Morgada". It is REAL REAL olive oil.
It's a little difficult to find. But any health food store can order it for you.
If you get a case [6 bottles] you usually get 10 % off.

I looked on a bottle and here is the website :

tradifoods.pt

The company name is Tradifoods [like Traditional, I think,
which resonates well for Traditionalists like those here !]

I am checking into a Spanish Organic one too. It is off and on :
some years available, some years scarce.

I wouldn't ever go for American-made brands, such as Whole foods' 365 Olive Oil.
It's not worth it to not get the very best quality, even if the Olive oil can be
proved to be 100% from olives.
[I am amazed to hear that the scam is still ongoing! There was New Yorker article

  • I think - or Atlantic Monthly - 5 or 6 years ago uncovering this olive oil fraud.
Neither did i know that the mafias play a part or even control it. Maybe they read
that original article and decided to elbow in to a profitable business !]

The Portuguese one seems the soundest of all to me.
