Greek authorities want to tax monasteries

ATHENS. According to "Romfeya", next week at the Holy Mount Athos there will be a meeting of monastery representatives, which will focus on pressing problems. Central among them will be the issue of taxation of monasteries.
It is estimated that one follows the principle of taxation now in force, some of the
monasteries would have to pay 600 thousand euros annually.
It does not take into account that during the economic crisis the monasteries have been active in charity work. "Such a tax policy will force us to close monasteries, " - said one of the hegumens.
