En este año, el 18 de marzo, se cumplirán cien años del nacimiento de su Beatitud el Metropolitano Vitalii (Ustinov), ultimo Primer Jerarca de la Iglesia Rusa Ortodoxa en el Extranjero.

On this year, on March 18th, will be the hundredth year since the birth of his Beatitude Metropolitan Vitalii (Ustinov), the last First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

It doesn't matter when he was born, but when he died. I don't understand why people commemorate the date of birth of a person who has passed on to the true life.

It is customary among Orthodox Christians to commemorate those who have fallen sleep in the Lord by officiating memorial services on the 3rd, 9th and 40th day after their repose, as well as on the anniversaries of death, name’s day, and birthday’s (at least that’s my experience in the Russian Church, where we commemorated hierarchs, clergy, monastics, and laymen on all those dates). The purpose of posting this was for people to pray for the repose of the Metropolitan, not to start another argument. There are many that have forgotten about him, and I just wanted to remind those that loved and respected Vladika Metropolitan Vitalii to pray on the 100th anniversary of his birth. May the memory of all the hierarchs of the ROCOR that have fallen sleep in a blessed repose, as well as all the other hierarchs, clergy, and laity that have confessed the Truth, be eternal, and let their remembrance go forth from generation onto generation.
