I had never heard of this man and despise TV in general, let alone "comedy" and "comediens" - they aren't funny except to the lowest common denominator in American society! That's my opinion about all of them.
I was going to mention somewhere about a supposedly celebrated actor, tom hanks, touted by Interfax last summer as being Orthodox, though they didn't specify to which jurisdiction he belongs.
If anyone noticed in that news item, the best they could drum up to report from the interview with the strange-eyed actor is that he-- RARELY -- attends Divine Liturgy.
But he claimed he discusses afterward with his daughters, or children, their "feelings". Pretty vague...
Lukewarm at best is the story here.
Until glancing at that article, I had never heard of this actor, myself.
Too bad such a person could not be brought to the True Orthodox...but the problem is that these entertainers are too mixed in with trendy opinions about morality, and readily compromise with the devil's appearance of glamor.
Looking him up on wikipedia, a red flag was that he made a dedication speech for a sports complex, or something, in which he dragged in praise of a teacher of his who was a homosexual.
This indicates the celebrity has a strong sympathy for homosexuals; why else would he say that? What kind of Orthodox parishioner is this?
Something often is distorted in the souls of these people. Hence these nominally Orthodox entertainers make inner compromises with Truth. Otherwise, they might look beyond World Orthodoxy into True Orthodoxy.
Though not commonly known , Natalie Wood, daughter of anti-Communist Russian emigres, was baptized in ROCOR's San Francisco Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Joy of All Who Sorrow, at that time the principal cathedral of ROCOR there, may have been another example.
What's interesting is that Natalie's forceful mother, who controlled every aspect of her daughter's life with an iron grip, did not accentuate Churchgoing or prayer. I saw the comment on another site that the actress had [her second? or third?] marriage performed in a - ROCOR? - parish in Southern California. But Natalie is not considered to have been a believer. Perhaps it was the mother's lack of spiritual training, with overwhelming insistence on Natalie's acting success that closed off that avenue.
[One can speculate that perhaps her tragic accident - or not accident? - that case may be reopened from the news this week - may well never have occurred had she maintained a consistent and deep Church and prayer life. I suspect the Mother of God would have averted such a terrible death probably instigated by demons. Demons may have thrown fuel on the fire of the argument she was having with Robert Wagner, a Sodom & Gomorrah type himself, and orchestrated events leading to the death of Natalie.]
Apparently neither did Natalie's mother focus on impressing upon her daughters the importance of political awareness about the Soviet threat - speaking of the pitfalls of raising daughters in modern America! This was back around the anti-Communist 50s or so. Natalie's half-sister Olga is said to have attended the OCA cathedral in San Francisco all these years, apparently not ROCOR. Others may have better information. I am just putting together conclusions from biographical accounts of Natalie Wood.
