IS THE OCA A LEGITIMATE, AUTOCEPHALOUS ORTHODOX CHURCH?

Post by Pravoslavnik »

Can anyone refer me to official statements of traditional Orthodox Synods regarding the legitimacy of the OCA as an Autocephalous Orthodox Church? I have heard that the granting of autocephalous status to the OCA by the Moscow Patriarchate in 1970 was strongly criticized by blessed Metropolitan Philaret, but I have never read any commentary by traditionally minded Orthodox priests and hierarchs about the legitimacy of the OCA. Any references would be appreciated.

Is it legitimate for a baptized Episcopal to become a priest let alone the"Archbishop & Metropolitan of All-America & Canada?"

The ROCOR published an informational booklet about the legitimacy of the Metropolia in 1945, and reprinted it after the "autocephaly" was granted, in 1975, called "The Truth about the Russian Church Abroad". About half of it is devoted to the schismatic nature of the other bodies that broke from it, and has a great deal on the Metropolia. It helps a lot in understanding why it was strongly criticized from the words of people at the time, without revisionist fluff.
