Everyone knows that the Rus originally came from Sweden-- Vikings in search of plunder -- but after reading about the latest Moscow Patriarchate sobor, which affirmed the MP's glorification of ecumenism and Sergianism, I have been wondering about a possibly different, Swedish aspect of the neo-Soviet Orthodox Church. To wit, are the hierarchs of the former ROCOR (Hilarion, Mark, Kyril, Gabriel, et.al.) suffering from "Stockholm" syndrome? Are they, in a sense, hostages of the Russian Federation and the FSB who have, like many other hostages, assumed the warped worldview and ethos of their captors through fear, intimidation, and simple proximity? Who among us from the old ROCOR would have imagined even a decade ago that these bishops would vote to support an MP resolution condemning any who would openly criticize ecumenism or Sergianism? What would blessed Metropolitan Philaret, Metropolitan Vitaly, or St. John of San Francisco think of this latest sobor? We should pray for all, and try to work out our salvation, somehow, through fear and trembling...

Here is one link (roughly translated from Russian) to the story of the shameful MP (ROCOR) sobor that took place from June 24-29, 2008 with the participation of our glorious ROCOR-MP hierarchs. Read it and weep:

No, 'everyone' is not aware of this. My understanding is the the "princes' of Moscovy' were of Viking origin, not the Rus they ruled.
