The Kyprianite denial of the existence of the 1935 encycial.

Post by GOCTheophan »

Dear All,

On another forum a member of the Synod in Resistence mission on the Isle of White has denied the existence of the 1935 Encycial claiming it is the fabrication of those with an "axe to grind". Is this what they teach their flock in Greece and elsewhere or is this just an English phenomena?

Thank you,

Theophan.

If you're refering to a statement made on the Paradosis discussion list, I think it's important to note the comment made by the Cyprianite (if I'm looking at the right one) amounts to "don't believe everything you read." I don't know if he was refering to the encyclical itself, or some other small point. Someone had stated that a "synod" or council had produced the encyclical, which gives the 1935 encyclical undue authority. From what I've read, most of the documents produced during that era were not synodal at all, but mere signed statements: proclamations, declarations, confessions. Perhaps he was being contentious about that point.

No it is clear that it is an offical document produced by the than united Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church. The Matthewites have always held to its confession and the Florinites have offically ratified several times, once indeed when Archimandrite Cyprian was under them. The Cyprianites have only 8 priests in Greece to their two Bishops there, one who is an english man. They have built themselves up with niave forgeiners who dont have an understanding of the history of the Sacred Struggle.

It would not be strange, that would explain some things very well about their strange ecclesiology.

The above seems to be the only reference in a 94 page, 1991, "Etna" publication. It doesn't quote anything from the 1935 "declaration". I don't know what they teach in Greece, but at least their California representatives acknowledge the "declaration", if not the actual content.

Father Bless!

I think though the declaration says a lot more than that they were just returning to the Old Calendar. I think what Etna wrote there could be called lying by omission.

Dear Father Mark:

They in California could acknowledge the declaration of 1935, but according to some sources that I know they don't stop one second of calling "Fanatic", "Sectarian" to the authentic Old Caledarist ( Florianites and Mathewites, and other TOC Russian Jurisdictions as ROCiE and FROC/ROAC), who accept in its fullness that declaration, while they (these same Kyprianites) self-called "Moderate".
