Russian Paranoia?

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Matt 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

I think that as Americans we should be able to see that the greatest danger of fascism lies at home. Our military spends more than most of the world's militaries combined spend. Legislation here is written by corporate lobbyists and passed by legislators who are funded by the same.

When government and industry combine, we have fascism, and that has nothing to do with young Russians marrying and consummating their marriages.

This type of distraction and fixation on "What the Russians are doing" is a complete distraction used by the USA to deflect attention from what is happening at home.

Same with the "terrorists" - who were and are funded by us, just as GOCTheophan's articles indicate that we assisted the Soviets and anyone who is familiar with the travesty of "Operation Keelhaul" can attest. We still fund Russia by propping up oil prices with this ridiculous war. We are also trying to start a second cold war just in case the terrorist war doesn't work out. The U.S. doesn't know how to live without a war, cold or otherwise.

I find my perception of your comments concerning Russians frightening, because to me, your remarks fall into the category of what is necessary to reignite the cold war. Russia does not equal Hitler. It just doesn't. No way, no how. Russia is a legitimate country entitled to be upset when America crawls up its rear end with bases and constantly says mean things. To me, you are part of the attempt to reignite the Cold War becasue you assert that America has a right to surround and threaten Russia, and any dissent from that by Russia indicates a mens rea. That is a ridiculous position. It is circular.

When you allow Tijuana and Vancouver to host huge military bases belonging to Russia and you allow Russia to spend its petro-dollars influencing the governments of Canada and Mexico, then you can come talk to me. Meanwhile, your assertion that Russia is somehow "aggressive" is utterly suspect.

I suspect your definition of aggression is what passes for a definition of said term in America - any action or word which might be interpreted as indicating anything other than utter submission.

Evil knows no nationality. Ethnicity and national origin are not the problem.

The problem is greed and the lust for power.

I am converted now to GOCTheophan's view that the battle is between God and Satan, not countries, systems or races.

I do not disagree with what you are saying about modern America. Frankly, I was surprised and alarmed by the ease with which the Bush administration manipulated the American public into supporting the disastrous invasion of Iraq in 2003. There have certainly been fascist qualities in right-wing Republican political groups in America, and even Republican President Dwight Eisenhower said fifty years ago that the American people needed to be very vigilant about the increased power of the "military-industrial" complex. The Bush family has been involved in the armaments industry for more than a century, and George H.W. Bush was one of the driving forces behind the arming of Saddam Hussein--right up to the outbreak of the Persian Gulf War, when Hussein thought he had received a "green light" from George Bush to occupy Kuwait. Cheney, as everyone knows, was the CEO of Halliburton, a corporation that has made billions from the Iraq War.

The whole thing reminds me of Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World, where modern states use carefully crafted propaganda campaigns to engender warfare, paranoia and nationalistic pride. Certainly Karl Rove and the Bush administration have done this, very consciously, and Putin appears to be doing the same thing today in Russia.
