Old English ROCOR and New Soviet ROCOR

Post by Pravoslavnik »

"I was just saying that it may take time to have English services."

Joanna,

Code: Select all

English services have been used in many American ROCOR parishes for a long time. St. John of San Francisco taught us that one important purpose of the White Russian diaspora after 1917 was to bring true Orthodoxy to the West, and that did, in fact, happen! Unfortunately, the ROCOR under Metropolitan Laurus (Skurla) has now embarked on a new Soviet/MP phase of its history, and has even talked publicly in Russia recently about abolishing the use of English in ROCOR parishes! Can you imagine the magnitude of this sin in the sight of God, who admonished His Apostles to "go forth unto all nations...and feed His lambs?" Metropolitan Laurus and the ROCOR hierarchs are taking food away from thier own lambs to gratify the nationalistic pride of Leninists like Putin--the Oktobrists of the KGB* who served Satan by persecuting the Holy Church!

*Vladimir Putin is a graduate of the KGB High School, and protege of former KGB Chief Yuri Andropov, and Patiarch Alexei II (Ridiger), the new first hierarch of the ROCOR, is a decorated KGB agent.

Dear Pravoslavnik,

"Metropolitan Laurus (Skurla) has now embarked on a new Soviet/MP phase of its history, and has even talked publicly in Russia recently about abolishing the use of English in ROCOR parishes!"

Don't get me wrong in asking questions - they are not intended to imply doubt - I just want to find out more since am a bit isolated from what's happening in America and can only find out about these things through the internet. Could you expand on the above quote? Is there any documentation regarding this?

I would like also to learn about the documentation for this public statement by Met Laurus.

See the lead post for this thread regarding the recent statement from the joint MP-ROCOR conference regarding the use of English in the ROCOR. Metropolitan Laurus is the first hierarch of the ROCOR, and I can only assume that the ROCOR personnel at the meeting are speaking on behalf of their first hierarch.

Thanks. I notice a slight difference on the version you post versus what the website itself says. The version posted at the opening message has the words "not wishing to succumb to a new style English speaking assimilation" yet the website quoted actually says "new calandar English speaking assimilation". I find the website statement interesting in that it seems to be talking about the OCA. ROCOR is not on the new calandar. This statement also would give support to the speculation that perhaps the English speaking converts are going to be pointed in the direction of the OCA while the ROCOR will be for Russians.

Yes it has been edited on the web site of origin after it became such a scandal. Rest assured what was posted here was originally what was on that web site.

Inbetween posts I went and did an on-line translation of the Russian version and it matches up better with the English version you posted.

It says "the English-language novostil'noy assimilation".
