Jurisdictions?

Post by SeraphimReynolds »

Dear Friends,

This is my first post, and I look forward to some fruitful dialogue in this forum.

From an outsiders perspective seeking out Holy Orthodoxy, how does one find the "right" jurisdiction? For someone who is non-Orthodox, and seeking out the Truth, questions must surely arise. I have a Uniate friend who asks me regularly about Orthodox jurisdictions (By the way, he is thirsting heavily for Holy Orthodoxy!).

It seems that the more you read on various websites (and other sources), and with everyone claiming to hold the Truth, how does one make sense of it all?

Besides remaining in humble prayer about this and seeking out the Divine Will of God, any thoughts?

Peace,

Wretched Seraphim

That is the most important part. Trusting in the Savior to guide your steps and to give you wisdom to ask the right questions and to give you the eyes to see the right things. Do not jump on emotions or quick perceptions.

The most important perception is how much of Jesus Christ and His Gosepl do you see in a church. That perception will come through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It may not come all the sudden.

This is not the easy answer, but it is the one that will ultimately take you to the right Orthodox spiritual home.

Jusisdictions are division by man, Christ's Church is undivided. You will know when you find it. A humble prayer for guidance is always answered by Him.

I personally don't believe there is any one right jurisdiction (and thus all the others are wrong). I believe Orthodoxy is held in more than one True jurisdiction. There are some Synods I think we can be sure where it doesn't exist, and this you must discern for yourself with the help of God which Synods these are. So don't get too caught up in the history of each Synod. Rather, find a spiritual father you can trust, one which preaches Orthodoxy, in a Synod that preaches Orthodoxy, and a Synod that isn't blatantly schismatic (like Gregory of Colorado).
