GOC & ROC

Post by Helen »

Forgive my ignorance fathers, but I just wanted to confirm if the moderators of this forum Father Mark is from the Greek Orthodox Church and that deacon Father Nicholas is from the "official" Russian Orthodox Church. The reason I am asking this question is because I thought this forum was for "Traditional" and not "World" churches. Not that I mind - I'm just trying to get some clarity for myself. And if anyone else is up to it - What is your definition of "Traditional"? What do you have to do to be "Traditional"? Is it defined by a "traditional" confession of faith or a way of life or both?

Thanks for any responses

Father Nicolas is from ROAC and Father Mark is from GOC (G meaning genuine). By traditional, we imply those who reject ecumenism, new calendar and sergianism and quit world orthodoxy.

Sorry, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out all these abbreviations and jurisdictions
So is ROAC= Russian Orthodox American Church? = World Orthodox?

ROAC is the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church- headed by His eminence Metropolitan Valentine in Suzdal Russia...
and The GOC is Genuine Orthodox Church- and it is an old calendar Greek church who officially left the Matthewite Synod under ArchBishop Nicholas of athens and all of Greece this last year- they are a jurisdiction under a Bishop Kirykos who states he is in exile

No, the Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church (www.ROACUSA.org) is not part of "World Orthodoxy". Rather, they resist and condemn the Moscow Patriarchate and all those in communion with the MP. ROAC condemns Sergianism and Ecumenism which are elements that exist in World Orthodoxy. The ROAC Church in America is not at all seperate from the ROAC in Russia, but be careful of those claiming to be part of ROAC in America, such as "Archbishop" Gregory of Colorado (who is a deposed bishop).
