A great response to this from the Indiana List:

From this website:

b. Cults tend to require members to undergo a major disruption or change in
life-style.
Lifestyle change is a given in Orthodox cults. You now have to fast
according to the cult's strict guidelines for 40 days before Christmas, 40
days before Pascha, 15 days in August, every Wednesday and Friday, etc. You
have to learn new customs that revolve around what they tell you is "truly
Orthodox." You have to learn the cult's jargon, most of which is negative,
and you have to begin explaining to family and friends that you've adopted a
new lifestyle that will help you "conquer your passions" and "pass through
the toll-houses."

Excuse me, but Orthodoxy requires that members undergo a major disruption
and change in your life-style. Or is someone saying Jesus is a cult leader
that should have been avoided?

And would someone please help me understand how anyone calling themselves
Orthodox could possibly equate guidelines to fast for 40 days before the
Nativity, and Pascha, as being a hallmark sign of a cult? Have things
drifted that far really in the new calendarist churches that its people
cannot even distinguish such a basic practice of the church?

I would not give this drug and porn addict Smith the satisfaction of a minute of my time to even look at his miserable website. He is DEPOSED deacon's Puhalo's latest conquest and simply following the orders of those who finance his miserable existence. Even worse, the pokrov women are too blind in their unfounded hatred of monastics that they are not even investigating Puhalo and his roomate's past and instead siding with the druggie. Do not waste your time on Smith, he is a pawn. Concentrate on the DEPOSED deacon and his associates!

His actions parallel those of the enemies of Orthodoxy!

As far as the indiana list, a clear waste of time!

Remember folks, engaging Smith is what they are after, best to ignore him and all of his clown tactics.

His e-mail is gerondaepraim@..., that is the extent of his Saddam creativity: continuing to attack a person he never spoke with, even for a minute!

I found the following post, dated 4/21/07, at:

You are right about the Toll House issue, but Lev or Lazar Puhalo's name has been appearing on a lot of Orthodox discussion boards recently because of his involvement with the monastery at Blanco, Texas. The monks were arrested for phedophile behavior.
It was Puhalo, when he was stil with the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, who was responsible for bringing this gang of pedophile converts. The so-called monastery later left the ROCOR, however, unfortunately, the ROCOR was still mentioned in the law suit.
Those of us in Canada, cannotunderstand why the OCA ever accepted Puhalo.
"

Does anybody out there have any additional info on Puhalo's association with the pedophiles at Blanco?

Lazar is a heretic. If OCA accepts him without recanting his past heresies it will give OCA another black eye in my sight.

:x I happen to like Archbishop Lazar. I find his approach sober and patristic. What exactly are his heresies? His eminence now has some videos on youtube. But use caution when venturing that most un-godly platform.

Amen! I had a brief correpsondence with Smith a couple years ago. His arguments are sensational and based on total ignorance of what Orthodoxy and monasticism are. I'm an ignoramous myself, but even I saw through his arguments. And the POEM website is governed by nothing but an agenda to smear Elder Ephraim. The devil is working through them.

Saava Asserted: I personaly think that Fr. Ephraim's monasteries are probably the best thing to happen in modern Orthdoxy in North America and would like to see them promoted by someone who seems to be working towards the same goals.

Response: How can they be when they are in communion with ecumenists? You can't possibly be serious. Thumbs down on your statement \/

Why was Archbishop Lazar excommunicated? I looked at pictures of his monaetry. Beautiful. Why are all the good ones always "excommunicated" or marked with problems?

I'm telling you people this fiesty spirit among Orthodox people has got to stop. All this in house fighting is going to destroy Orthodoxy -- if it hasn't already.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

I'm still looking for the Church of the Saints I read so much about when I became Orthodox. Where is it?
