Dear in Christ,

On the Paradosis List it is being reported that Metropolitan Vitaly has reposed in the Lord this morning. Let us all keep him in our prayers, especially over the next 40 days. Memory Eternal Vladyko!
O God, unto Whom all live, and by whose power our bodies, when they die, are not destroyed, but are in due time transformed into a better estate: we humbly beseech Thee, of thy loving-kindness and mercy, to wash away and pardon whatsoever stain of sin contrary to thy holy will thy servant may have contracted, through the fraud of the devil and through his own frailty and iniquity; and that Thou wouldest grant that his soul be carried by the hands of thy holy Angels, and be placed in the bosom of thy Patriarchs, of Abraham thy friend, and of Isaac thine elect, and of Jacob thy beloved, where there is no more sorrow nor sadness nor sighing, where the souls of the faithful rejoice with a happy gladness: and that in the last day of the great judgment Thou wouldest cause him to receive among thy Saints and elect ones a portion in thine everlasting glory, where eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man to conceive the things which Thou hast prepared for them that love Thee. Through Jesus Christ thine only Son our Lord, Who with Thee and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth, God, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
I feel that I can ask this here without appearing to be insensitive as it is a discussion rather the prayer section of the cafe, and so I pray you to forgive the interpolation, but what is the liturgical protocol where commemorations are concerned at the Liturgy during an interregnum such as this? is it the case that the local bishop only is commemorated in the litanies, without "our Master metropolitan Vitaly, First Hierarch of the Russian Church in Exile"?
Many thanks for satisfying my curiosity.
(The Russian Church in Exile website doesn't make any mention of this story, BTW).
My humble translation about this news in Portal-Credo. Ru
"Acording information received from a correspondent of Portal Credo. Ru, on September 25, in Canada, in the age of 97, the First Hierarch of ROCOR (V) Metropolitan Vitaly(Ustinov) has died. According to unoficial news, his rest took place approximately at 19.30 pm, Moscow hour, in the Magog Canadian hospital, near Holy Transfiguration Skete in Mansonville, place where the First Hierarch resided.
According to near sources to the Metropolita Vitaly, his health increases last week, and he was hospitalized. During last six years Metropolitan Vitaly suffered diverse indispositions and he could not carry out alone the divine services. Two months before his death a schism in ROCOR (V) took place, however the name of Metropolita Vitaly like First Hierarch is elevated in three different and independent to each other ecclesiastical jurisdictions ."
