I think the animal cruelty argument and the health argument are valid points. (That's why I became a vegetarian over a decade ago.) After all, when these canons were written, there were no factory farms, growth hormones, or artificial chemical fertilizers!

Dear Father Siluoan,
I have not that not going back to eating meat after lent has had a very benefical Spiritual effect. Vegetarianism really does lower sinful passions such as lust and anger.

This is exactly what I have been saying. Nothing is unclean in and of itself, but some things are just gross.
