You must understand that although you all might very well know the history and tradition of the Russian and Greek Orthodox Church , you dont understand my country and our people, we never had Orthodox Priests except in the 1970`s when Bishop Theodore Irtel left Alaska to juarez Mexico- the mexican people are very poor and have always relied on the Mother of God- this Visit was what the mexican knew as Her love for all those who Truely suffer, you also must understand that in the country of Mexico the Mother of God,Nuestra Senora Madre de Dios appeared to a peasant in a desert for several days and healed his uncle, this peasant wasnt catholic and probally the reason why it took the latin church up until 2 years ago to make this Juan Diego a Saint of the Latin church, almost 300 years...when this Visit of the Blessed Mother of God happened in the 17th century she left an image of herself on the robe of the Peasant and a small chapel was built in Honor of Her, and the Latin Priests took upon themselves as this visit was because of the latin church...she is only carried in procession in Mexico and latin communities of the U.S. and isnt recognized elsewhere...I know a Mexican HeiroMonk who has in prayer prepared an Akathist to this Icon of the Mother of God of Guadalupe...understand that although the majority of the mexicans in mexico lost hope and trust in the latin church priesthood, they didnt lose hope in the mother of God and her Son Our God and Saviour Jesus Christ- Chapels in the middle of nowhere still exist where Priests havent visited in 30-40 years, but are adorned with her Icon or statues with beautiful Flowers brought by pious elderly women in head covering who usually approach on there knees...
Why statues,it was never thought as a 3 dimension, just a simple way to venerate her image and nothing more...

Dear Spiridon:
I agree with that this could seem intelligent to attract people to the Orthodoxy and also I respect the pity of the Mexican people and I pray for them. But we should agree about the Orthodox Church had not pronounced any word with regard to this image and story, and we should be careful with this due to the time of the apostasy in which we live now, caused by Heresy of the Ecumenism.
I wonder If it would be difficult than they teach to the people there correctly instead of even confusing more them.
BTW. This pictures was taken in a MP parish. Maybe they have the same point of view that OCA in this respect at least in Mexico

Given that the account goes that the Theotokos appeared to a pagan, hundreds of years before Orthodox came to the land, and soon afterwards, human sacrifice and other pagan practices were wiped away, I think that it could be acceptable to Orthodox. They went RC because they had no Orthodox Church known to them but the seed of faith was planted.
The danger of ecumenism is a point well taken though.
Anastasios
Yes and Ecumenism as we know it today is sad, we must always remember to use those words "as we know it today" because in the times of the holy fathers of the church it was a necessary word of Truth...
and that being said the ecumenism as we know it today is dangerous, as the protestants have came into ,even mexico and twirled the sticks in such a way that it should now only be used for a bon-fire instead...
the new calendarists have begun spreading New Calendar Orthodox across the land and implanting the thought that being Orthodox entitles one to tahe Holy communion in any Orthodox Church, and if necessary in a latin Church too. this world has definetly gone sour.
you know there was a theologists on the left hand who represented the evil one and his signature was this
"its hard being evil in a world thats gone to hell"
