ROCOR Priest States Saint Philaret is in Schism

Post by 尼古拉前执事 »

This is a post from the Paradosis list that I found interesting, so I am posting it since some of you may as well.

Fr.George Lardas wrote that all those who state that the MP has no
grace have departed into schism. Saying this he includes Holy Metr.Philaret
who stated:

Excerpts from St.Metr.Philaret's letter to Fr.Victor Potapov:

..."we receive the clergymen from Moscow not as ones possessing grace,
but as ones receiving it by the very act of union. But to recognize the
church of the evil-doers as the bearer and repository of grace, that we
cannot
do, of course. For outside of Orthodoxy there is no grace; and the Soviet
church has deprived itself of grace."

New ROCOR no longer considers Holy Metr.Philaret one of theirs?

Archpriest George Lardas wrote:

On Talks with the Moscow Patriarchate:

"Now that the storm is past, some have embraced a position our Church
has never before held that the Moscow Patriarchate is without grace and its
Mysteries are invalid. These people have lost the Catholicity of the
Church and have themselves departed into schism. To embrace that position is
to go against the conciliar conscience of the Russian Church Abroad, it is
to
go against the Patristic experience and pastoral practice of the Church,
it is to go against the love that we have for our brethren, who hold the
same
Faith that we do, and have the same hope of Salvation in our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ. Having taken that step they have nothing further
to say to the Russian people and have become sectarians, just as the Old
Believers became sectarians. They no longer have any witness to the
Orthodox world."

Yours in Christ,

Fr George Lardas, Rector

St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church

Stratford, Connecticut

Here there is a recording in Russian on the position of Saint Philaret with his voice, for those who can be doubtful.

I suppose it should be no surprise that you would choose to belittle a priest from ROCOR who's words were and are being twisted to fit into the ravings spewing foth from the mind of Peter Andreev. Someone well known for his distortion and twisting of ANY written word to fit his own agenda.

I am disappointed in both of you, but I also take great consolation in the phrase.... what goes around comes around.... it's only a matter of time.

Liudmilla,

Code: Select all

If the words of Archpriest George Lardas were twisted by Peter Andreev, please let me know as I would want to have no part in any such thing. Let us be productive by showing proof of an error if one is misinformed instead of attacking the messenger.

Father:
If you saw Peter's posting then you saw Matushka's reply....but instead you choose to only post Peter's comments with no "fair" posting of the reply to the above pathetic post.

If you had been truly thinking about "truth" you would have at least posted the reply, but you choose not to.

I do not attack anyone, I am merely pointing out the onesidedness of your post.

Seems 2-sided to me, we see the longer message of fr. George Lardas, then we see the other side in a reply by Peter.

I wasn't going to get into the middle of this one but Ioannis's post changed my mind. The problem with many of these cross posts is that they are frerquently incomplete and misleading. Father George gave a talk in July of 2005 from which the above statement was taken. Peter Andreev had chosen to resurrect this statement as one of his numerous and frequent ad hoc attacks against ROCOR. And as is usual for him, twisting the original intent of the talk to suit his own agenda. Ioannis's post implies they were having a discussion.....they were not.

Below is Matushka Ann's reply to Peter.......as far as I know I have never seen Fr George engage in any of these forum "disputes".
