How to convert over to practice

Post by dcmt28 »

Hello:
Being new to the faith I am having a hard time getting the family together for prayer and services. Coming from a Baptist religion it is a big adjustment. Can anyone please suggest a method for us to get into the daily practice of prayers. I have little ones so it is kind of hard to make them understand.. Also on fast days should children fast also?
My husband does not like to read aloud so I have to lead in prayers and readings is this okay? I read that the husband should lead the family in prayer and home services.

Greetings dcmt28, although I am not a Priest or even worthy of giving
directions or advice, I can however tell you that I too am a convert, although I did come from a traditional roman catholic part of the Latin church of rome, Nevertheless Im still a convert and If I was you , I would study the faith on your own for a bit and just give them bits and pieces, the most effective way to pass what you are learning to them is by being a true representitive of what you are learning, dont fall into making them fast already and tire everyone out too fast, let them experience the Lives of the Saints first...pick a time at night after dinner to read the life of the saints, that the church is remembering for that day... a perfect book for you to now have for you and your family is is the THE PROLOGUE FROM OCHRID, here is a link
http://www.orthodoxpress.org/catalog/lives_g.htm

if you are truely looking for the Truth in Christianity, of which you will find nowhere else except in Orthodox, then the lives of the Saints is what you and your family need ASAP. But now is the time to schedule a session with a Priest of the church you are near or attend...the first step must be yours to talk to a Priest, alone would be great that way you and the Priest can talk about pastbeliefs and the family...
good luck and ask St.John the Baptist to pray to God for you and that he may personally guide you and your family through the Orthodox church ...

First, and Last, and Always
in CHRIST
