MOSCOW, July 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's patriarch will perform the first-ever joint service with the leader of the Orthodox Russians overseas later this year, to reconnect the two communities after an almost century-long split, the Moscow Patriarchy said Monday.

Patriarchy officials said Alexy II and Metropolitan Laurus of New York would perform the Holy Communion in a symbolic gesture aimed at restoring ties severed in the 1920s, after Russian Orthodox leaders forced out of the country by the Bolshevik revolution accused the Moscow Patriarchy of collaborating with the new regime.

The officials gave no specific date for the historic service, but said it could take place in the Moscow Kremlin's Assumption Cathedral.
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia attended three services in Moscow during his first official visit in 2004.

You're absolutely right.
But what does ecumenism have to do with the reunification of the Russian Church?
Answer???
Nothing.
Another argument shut down. Next...

Were you addresing me, scwaterfowl? If so, while not meaning to appear rude, I'm not sure what it is that you're talking about. I don't know what you mean by "Another argument shut down". I was merely expressing my joy at what seems to be another positive step along they way. I wasn't arguing anything. As for ecumenism, nobody had even mentioned it on this thread until you brought it up.

If you were referring to my signature text, that appears at the bottom of every post of mine, much like anybody else's signature. I change it regularly, quoting various people or hymns. My last one was intended to be humorous, and was, "I don't believe in organised religion: I'm Orthodox", and the next time I change it, whatever I change it to will also appear at the bottom of each post of mine. That's just how the software works. To read my signature as though I'm applying the sentiments contained therein to each post of mine would be to misunderstand.

If you weren't addressing me, then please accept my apologies and ignore what I've said above.
