Head Coverings

Post by dcmt28 »

Hello All:
I am new to the faith. My question is head coverings? She we wear a head cover at all times or only when we are praying and studying. I also have questions about dress are pants allowed?

Depends on the custom of the Orthodox Church you attend.

Welcome dcmt28!
As you can imagine this topic has come up before. It was covered extensively here: On Modesty of Women in Church, but there're 27 pages to read. :? There is also an article on the subject here: On Account Of The Angels Why I cover My Head

Hopefully everyone will give you a chance to read these and come back with questions before we start on another 27 page discussion on this subject.

I thought it was because a womans hair is like her crown, and you do not wear your crown in front of the Lord.

:D I was actually being a little naughty. In Britain, they're called trousers. Pants means underwear, which is why it sounds strange to my British ears to hear someone ask if pants are allowed at church. I know many people think we Orthodox have unusual practices. The last thing we want is for them to think we don't allow people to wear underwear to church.

I'm aware of the American convention, though, of referring to trousers as pants. I was just teasing. :P
